Doug Thomas is a nationally recognized first-person historical interpreter and historical performer best known for his portrayal of George Washington at George Washington’s Mount Vernon. His work combines historical research, theatrical presence, storytelling, and audience engagement to make the founding era vivid, human, and memorable.

Doug’s performances are not simply appearances in period clothing. They are carefully crafted interpretive experiences designed to help audiences understand history through character, story, and conversation.

Over the years, Doug has personally developed and portrayed more than twenty famous characters from history, spanning from the American Revolution into the early 19th century. As the Director of History Makers for Historic Philadelphia Incorporated, he directs and trains others in first person interpretation, writes scripts, and works with the program team to vet content for historical accuracy.
